Total South Africa, in partnership with SANParks, sponsors the Keep the Kruger Clean Campaign in support of World Environment Day

June 2015 Total South Africa will today launch the 2015 Keep the Kruger Clean Campaign, in partnership with SANParks. Not only does today signify the launch of the 2015 SANPark’s Keep the Kruger Clean Campaign but it is also World Environment Day, the biggest, most globally celebrated day for positive environmental action.

In accordance with this year’s theme titled "Seven Billion Dreams -  One Planet - Consume with Care",  the Keep the Kruger Clean Campaign encourages members of the communities neighbouring the park, visitors to the Park as well as  staff members to embark on an annual drive to eradicate litter from the Park in order to ensure that this is kept in pristine condition.

At the launch, Total South Africa, together with the SANPark’s team members, will highlight the importance of keeping the environment free of litter by touching on the negative impact that litter has on the animals and ecosystems in the Park.

“It is our moral duty to ensure that we all stand together and collectively preserve our natural habitat for future generations. We believe in responsible actions by individuals and communities, as an imperative factor in protecting and managing the environment and we are proud to be part of this initiative. The survival of the South African National Parks system, our natural and cultural heritage lies in its people and the ability of South Africans to gain a sense of appreciation of the beauty that our National Parks offer,” explains Pansy Mekwa, General Manager: Strategy at Total South Africa.

The SANParks Keep the Kruger Clean Campaign was first initiated in 2008 and today’s Keep The Kruger Clean launch encourages staff members, community members and school children from schools situated close to the Park to join forces in a day-long, annual clean-up campaign to ensure that this – one of South Africa’s eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites – remains in a pristine condition.

In 2012, SANParks officially launched the “Vukani the Vulture” mascot, during the Keep Kruger Clean Campaign. This year the mascot will continue to be visible throughout the Park on all litterbins as a means to remind the public to keep the park free of litter and unwanted waste.

“Over the long term, Total South Africa intends to continue to support SANParks’ various awareness campaigns and assist in educating the public about the importance of nature conservation through our partnership with SANParks,” concludes Mekwa.
